Thomas P. Campbell

Thomas P. Campbell (born 1962) is a tapestry curator who is scheduled to become the ninth director of the Metropolitan Museum of Art effective January 1, 2009.

Campbell was born and raised in Cambridge, England. He received a B.A. in English language and literature from the University of Oxford in 1984 and a Master's degree at the Courtauld Institute of Art in 1987 and a PhD from Courtauld in 1999. From 1987 in 1994 he worked on creating Franses Tapestry Archive in London (1987-94) which had more than 120,000 images.

He joined the Metropolitan Museum's Department of European Sculpture and Decorative Arts in 1995 rising from Assistant Curator (1995-97) to Associate Curator (1997-2003) to Curator. Campbell lives in Ossining, NY, with his wife and two children.
