George Mallet

Sir William George Mallet GCMG CBE (b. July 24, 1923) is a Saint Lucian politician. Mallet served as the Minister of Commerce, Industry and Tourism in the first post-independence government of St.Lucia in 1979. In later years, Mallet also served as Deputy Prime Minister, Minister for Foreign Affairs and Minister for Home Affairs.

As a member of the United Workers Party (Saint Lucia) (UWP), George Mallet represented the Castries Central district. George Mallet was very popular amongst his constituents and never lost the Castries Central seat during his political career. After retiring from active politics in 1996, Mallet served as Governor General between June 1, 1996 and September 17, 1997. He was knighted in 1999. His wife, Lady Beryl Mallet, died August 27, 2003.
