Juma Almajid

Juma al Majid (born in Dubai, United Arab Emirates around 1930) is one of the key businessmen of the UAE and one of the owners of large conglomerates in the nation.

The son of a family that worked on sea trading, he followed the entrepreneurial route and started a small shop selling different household related stuff around 1950 with a loan from a large Dubai trader at the time. He then worked along different lines of business, including furniture, electronics, real estate, automobiles trading and other businesses. Currently, Juma al Majid establishment is a very large conglomerates in the country that owns large number of agencies for some of the most famous brands (examples include KIA motors, Hyundai, Samsung, Panasonic and others).

Alongside his commercial activities, Juma Al Majed is also famous for his high level of involvement in charity and corporate social responsibility activities. He runs a totally free-entry college that teaches Islamic science and Arabic language to UAE nationals and GCC citizens. He has bought and maintains a high number of Arabic manuscripts and made them available to researchers through Juma Al Majid Centre for Culture and Heritage. He runs also charity schools and other social activities.

Recognizing his role as a key contributor to the economic activities in the City, the Emirate of Dubai has appointed Juma Al Majid as the head of the Dubai Economic Council in 2003.
