- M2 (Copenhagen)
The M2 Line is a line of the
Copenhagen Metro , coloured yellow on the map. It runs from Vanløse to Lufthavnen (Copenhagen Airport ) through the centre ofCopenhagen , sharing track with the M1 from Vanløse to Christianshavn. Its main purpose is to connect the eastern part of Amager which isn't covered byS-train s, with the rest ofMetropolitan Copenhagen .History
M2 opened on
October 19 2002 with traffic from Nørreport to Lergravsparken. OnMay 29 2003 it was extended to Frederiksberg, and onOctober 12 2003 it was extended all the way to Vanløse. Construction of the extension to the Airport began in November 2003 and finished onSeptember 28 2007 .The stretch between
Øresund station and the airport is built on the route of the oldAmagerbanen . The stretch has five new stations and is 4.5 kilometres long, and it is expected to transport approximately 25,000 passengers a day. It was originally intended to build the line on an embankment, but the local population believed that this would part Amager in an eastern and western part. Therefore, the plans for the line were revised to construct the stretch mostly on ground level with more flyovers than originally planned. [http://m.dk/arbejdet] The cost of the project is estimated at €200,000.Intervals
