Geert Egberts Boer was the docent of Calvin College from 1876-1902.

Boer was born in Roderwolde, Drenthe, the Netherlands [http://www.calvin.edu/hh/calvin_college_presidents/pres_boer.htm Geert Boer, Heritage Hall, Calvin College] ] . He graduated from the theological school in Kampen in 1864 before pursuing a career in the ministry. In 1873, Boer was called to Grand Rapids, Michigan. In 1876, the Synod of the Christian Reformed Church appointed him the first professor of their newly established theological school. Using his own books and a curriculum modeled on the one used in Kampen, Boer opened the school which later became Calvin Theological Seminary and its offshoot Calvin College.

Boer is also noted for encouraging the growth of Christian primary education. In 1986, Calvin College opened the Boer-Bennink residence hall, naming the male wing after Boer because of his significant contributions to Christian education and his special place in the history of Calvin College [http://www.calvin.edu/admin/housing/residence-halls/bb.html Boer-Bennink Hall, Residence Life, Calvin College] ] .
