Marcus Thomas Pius Gilbert

Marcus Thomas Pius Gilbert (also known as Tom Gilbert, and publishing as MTP Gilbert) is an evolutionary biologist. He received a BA at Oriel College, Oxford University, and a D.Phil ) in the Zoology Dept of New College under Alan Cooper. Subsequently, he was a post-doctoral fellow at the Department of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology, at the University of Arizona. In 2005, he became an Assistant Professor at Copenhagen, where he is currently Associate Professor at the University of Copenhagen's Natural History Museum, and a member of the Centre for Geogenetics at Copenhagen University. He is also an Honorary Fellow of the Department of Biology, University of York, and an Associate Editor of the Elsevier Journal, Archaeological and Anthropological Sciences. He has received several prestigious awards.[1]

He is notable for his work on ancient DNA, having several publications in journals such as Science, Nature and PNAS. He was involved in the sequencing of DNA from Pre-clovis native americans.[2]

He is the author of 84 papers in peer-reviewed journals, The most cited is "Rise and fall of the Beringian steppe bison" , in Science 306 (5701), pp. 1561–1565 (2004), with 109 citations according to Scopus by March, 2009.
