Chibuzor Okonkwo (born December 16, 1988) is a Nigerian Defender who plays football (soccer) for Heartland.

Career

He is a right-footed full-back who can play on either side of the pitch. He came in January 2007 from Gabros International to Bayelsa United F.C.,[1] where he won the 2008-09 League MVP award after leading helping Bayelsa win their first ever league title.[2] May, 2009 Okonkwo was linked with a move to Stoke City F.C. [3] and signed on 6 October 2009 for Heartland F.C.[4] The deal fell through however and he returned to Bayelsa. On August 23, 2010, he completed a move to Russian Premier side FC Rostov. But the deal was eventually quashed due to disagreement over wages. He has since returned home to sign for Heartland, where his mentor Samson Siasia was in charge.

International career

Was member of Nigeria U-23 team for 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing.[5] He was added to the Super Eagles' list for friendlies in April 2009, the first Nigeria-based player to earn a callup since Shaibu Amodu became coach,[6] but was unable to travel due to visa problems.[7]

He finally made his Nigeria debut on March 3, 2010, starting at right back in the 5-2 home win over Congo DR.
