Matthew Cassidy (born 2 October 1988, Blackpool, England) is an English born Irish footballer currently playing for Othellos after mutually terminating his contact with AEL Limassol.

He has previously played for Bolton Wanderers Youth and Reserve sides from the 05/06 to the 07/08 season and was named Academy Player of the Year in 2007.

In the summer of 2007 he made his full first team debut for Wanderers in their pre-season defeat against Hibernian but moved on from Wanderers in the summer of 2008 to the Cypriot first division side in search of first team opportunity.

Although offered contracts at a number of English clubs including Doncaster Rovers and Luton Town, Cassidy turned down these offers to accept a contract at Enosis Neon Paralimni after being impressed with the set up there. He was Ireland's first ever footballing export to Cyprus.[1][2] After 2 solid years with Enosi Neon Paralimniou, Cassidy managed to win a transfer to one of the biggest clubs of the island, AEL Limassol. Cassidy signed his new 5 years contract with AEL Limassol on 9 June 2010. However his move didn't work out and he left just one year later.

He has also represented the Republic of Ireland U17, U18 and U19 youth sides. In 2006 and 2007, Cassidy played in multiple games during Ireland's qualification tournament for the 2006 UEFA Under 19 Championships.[3]
