Roxanne "Roxy" Miller was a fictional character in the Australian soap opera "Home and Away".Portrayed by Lisa Lackey, she was introduced towards the end of 1992 and made a regular at the beginning of 1993.She departed the show in early 1995.

Character history

Roxy was the half-sister of Summer Bay resident Blake Dean, the product of a brief marriage his father Les Bagley had had in his youth.Roxy's mother gave her up for adoption and when she was old enough she tried to track down her birth parents.Les sent word he wanted nothing to do with her but when Blake learned of her existence he tracked her down to a cafe where she was working in the city.He persuaded her to apply for a job at their father's restaurant so she could get to know him without him knowing who she was but after going along with the charade for one shift Les sacked her-he had known who she was instantly because of her resemblance to her mother. He then went to see Roxy in secret and hit her, telling her to stay away from his family. When Blake found out he was horrified and, cutting all ties with Les, took Roxy back to the Bay with him for her own protection, where they began renting a van at the caravan park.

The manner of Blake's recent departure from the Bay meant he wasn't exactly welcomed back with open arms, especially by his foster father Alf Stewart.Roxy teamed up with Alf's wife Ailsa to try and reunite the two but ended up arguing with Alf herself. However, her actions, including finding an old newspaper in which Alf was nominated for a bravery award for saving a man from drowning, did ultimately help the two reconcile.Blake was invited to move back in with Alf and Ailsa and, although no-one including Roxy had thought of it, assumed the invitation extended to her, which Roxy eventually accepted.

Roxy began receiving romantic overtures from local policeman Nick Parrish but Blake warned her off him, since Nick had recently split from his fiance and Blake feared he was on the rebound. In fact Nick was sincere but Roxy wasn't planning on staying in the Bay and put some distance between them.As she was about to leave town, Nick raced to the bus stop to persuade her to stay. However, the relationship fizzled out almost immediately;Nick had family problems when his brother Shane was arrested and he and Roxy decided to stick to being friends.

Roxy was united with her other half-sibling, Karen, when she returned to the Bay on being released from prison but she and Blake left not long after.Roxy, however, decided to settle in the Bay and took a job teaching art at Summer Bay High. She befriended and started dating one of her new colleagues, Luke Cunningham. She also struck up something of a big sister relationship with Sarah Thompson, who was staying with Alf and Ailsa.

Roxy was accosted by an old boyfriend who was short of funds and threatened to have some swimsuit shots she had once posed for published if she didn't stump up the cash.An attempt at a mutual double cross saw them both leave empty-handed, as Roxy and Luke left him trying to locate his car keys in the middle of the bush. When the photos were published, Luke and Nick removed every copy of the magazine from the Bay before they could be seen but Tug O'Neale, who lived out of town, got hold of a copy and, after a run-in with Roxy at school, plastered photocopies everywhere.Fortunately Roxy survived the scandal.

Roxy had reason to thank Luke and Nick again when she bought a dud car that broke down straightaway;while she began making plans to take an evening class in car maintenance, they arranged with Alf to take the car to the caravan park, repair it and then return it in secret.

Roxy was pleased when her sister Imogen arrived to visit but was unaware of the resentment Imogen felt towards her, feeling she had always been favoured by their parents. After making a clumsy attempt to steal Luke off her, Imogen began making Roxy look bad, hiding exam papers, altering the information she was sending to the printers and putting cakes back in the oven to be burnt. In the end, Ailsa saw through her game playing and despite Roxy's attempts to persuade her to get help Imogen stormed out of town, saying Roxy would never see her again.

Imogen may have failed to split up Roxy and Luke but the arrival of Luke's brother Bill, who was mentally disabled, did just that.Luke spent all his time caring for Bill and the pair drifted apart-soon after Bill left, Roxy officially ended things. The pair still found themselves working together on school projects, although they tended to be disastrous. The school play they organised was ruined when Shane and Tug came to blows on stage on the opening night and Roxy managed to offend everyone while organising a debutante ball by asking Don Fisher to be guest of honour ahead of Alf.

Roxy nevertheless cared for her students and when she came across Kevin Baker, an Aborigine boy with a talent for art, she persuaded him to enroll at Summer Bay High and arranged for him to stay with Michael and Pippa Ross.

Around this time, Greg Marshall left town and Luke and Roxy started renting his house, also taking on effective responsibility for Tug, who had been living with Greg and his late wife Bobby.Roxy was stunned when Luke revealed he still had feelings for her and did her best to let him down gently.Soon after, she started seeing James Healy, a new teacher who had taken over Luke's job.Suspecting they had little in common, James enlisted Luke's help to persuade Roxy he was into the same books as her but she quickly saw through his ruse.Although Luke managed to convince her James had meant well, he left town soon afterwards after being offered a better job.He and Roxy tried to keep things going long distance but they soon fizzled out.

When a self-destructive Tug stole Roxy's car, she was forced to report him to the police and felt guilty when he was charged. She spoke in his defence in court, contributing to him escaping a custodial sentence.Meanwhile, Greg announced he was selling the house and Roxy was horrified to learn Irene Roberts was thinking of buying it, describing her as the landlady from hell without realising her daughter Fin was in earshot.Irene responded by saying she wouldn't keep Roxy on as a tenant so Roxy and Luke made plans to buy it themselves. However, Roxy then decided she didn't want to stay there anyway and moved back in with Alf and Ailsa.

Roxy gained a new love interest in the shape of handyman Rob Storey.Although their first meeting was less than promising, when she caught him getting revenge on a driver that had splashed his suit by placing a potato in his exhaust, she soon began to realise there was more to him than met the eye. After she blurted out to him that she liked him, they arranged dinner and soon began a highly indiscreet relationship which resulted in Irene catching them in a very compromising position on Don's kitchen floor. When Sarah overheard them talking about it, it was soon around the Bay.

Then Rob told Roxy he had noticed a lump on her breast and she was diagnosed with breast cancer.Rob supported her through the diagnosis and planned to propose to her until Roxy admitted she wasn't that serious about him.Soon after she left the Bay to undergo treatment. She presumably recovered since she later corresponded with Alf and Ailsa. Roxy was last known to be living in Greece.
