Hard Working Class Heroes (sometimes shortened to HWCH) is an Irish showcase music festival for emerging bands, organised in association with BudRising. It is Ireland's only festival dedicated to Irish bands and has taken place in Dublin on an annual basis in and around September of each year since 2003.

History

2003 event

HWCH took place for the first time in 2003.

2004 event

HWCH took place for a second year in 2004. 600 bands auditioned from which 100 acts were chosen to perform.

2005 event

HWCH took place for a third year in 2005. Tickets cost €25. Host venues included the Olympia Theatre, Eamon Dorans, Pravda, The Temple Bar Music Centre amongst other venues. [http://www.imro.ie/newstastic/news.php?item=9157]

2006 event

HWCH took place for a fourth year in 2006, and featured Irish acts such as 79Cortinaz, Patrick Freyne & His Bad Intentions, Super Jimenez and Novastone, as well as the Canadian acts Mark Bragg, Jill Barber, and Inflight Safety.

2007 event

HWCH took place for a fifth year in 2007. It occurred for the first time in the Pod Complex from September 28-30. [http://www.letcombe.com/hwch07/index.html] It featured some emerging talents from Scandinavia as well as emerging Irish acts such as Ham Sandwich, The Flaws, Fight Like Apes, halves, Dark Room Notes, Super Extra Bonus Party, The Chakras and The Kybosh.

2008 event

HWCH took place for a sixth year in 2008. It took place on the streets of Temple Bar (following its one one-year tenure at the Pod Complex) from September 12-14. With close to 100 acts, the event saw gigs in Andrew's Lane Theatre, The Button Factory, Meeting House Square, Eamonn Doran's and The Hub.
