Jonathan Cole (born 21st December 1970 in
Welwyn Garden City ) is a Britishcomposer and professor of composition at theRoyal College of Music .Biography
Jonathan Cole studied composition at
King’s College ,London , theGuildhall School of Music and Drama andRoyal Holloway ,University of London . His teachers includedSimon Bainbridge ,Simon Holt andMalcolm Williamson . His work first achieved public notice with Ouroboros I (1999). He has enjoyed a fruitful relationship with theLondon Sinfonietta who have premiered three pieces and has received commissions from theBBC ,Nash Ensemble ,RAI Orchestra , Turin and theLondon Symphony Orchestra amongst others. His music is widely performed in festivals across the world and has been supported by such figures asOliver Knussen ,George Benjamin andMark Anthony Turnage . Influenced byStockhausen andNono as well asDavid Lynch andGeorges Bataille , his music explores perception and memory in rich and imaginative ways.Career highlights
