Gaonkar Sanappa Parameshwar

Sannappa Parameshwar Gaonkar (January 11, 1885-1972), also called Sa.Pa. Gaonkar and S.P. Gaonkar, a Nadavara was an Indian politician, author, and lawyer. A Nadavara, Gaonkar was often described as “Sajjan”, or "good and gentle".

He was imprisoned during the British Raj for having participated in the Quit India Movement, and later served as a deputy minister in B. G. Kher’s cabinet of the composite State of Bombay, India.

Biography

Sannappa Parameshwara Gaonkar was born on Jan 11, 1885 in Torke (Village), Kumta near Gokarna. Sa.Pa. was a headmaster of Tadadi primary Kannada school, Tadadi, Kumta. At the age of 40 (1925), he graduated from the Willington College, Sangli. He was an officer at Hubli municipality. After his retirement in the year 1942, S. P. Gaonkar participated in Quit India movement and joined the Swaraj Party. In the year 1946-47, he was nominated as a Deputy minister in B. G. Kher’s cabinet of the composite State of Bombay, India. During his lifetime, SP Gaonkar was well acquainted with politicians, administrators, and writers such as Bendre, Gourish Kaikini, V. K. Gokak, Venkanna H. Naik and so many. It was Gaonkar, in the year 1936, who helped to organize the Kannada Sahitya Academy Sammelan in Gokarna near to his village Torke.

SAPA was married to Venkamma U. Keremane from Hiregutti village.
