William Dale Jennings

William Dale Jennings

William Dale Jennings (October 21, 1917May 11, 2000) was an American writer and gay rights activist. He was a cofounder of the Mattachine Society and editor-in-chief of the society's magazine, "ONE Magazine".

In 1952, he was charged with sexual solicitation, but decided to contest the charge in court. Ultimately, the charges were dropped, marking a turning point in gay rights activism in California.

His this three published novels are "The Cowboys" (made into a 1972 western starring John Wayne and Bruce Dern), "The Ronin", and "The Sinking of the Sarah Diamond". In total, he wrote over 120 books, plays, and short stories.
