Beth-El Synagogue (New Rochelle, New York)

Beth-El Synagogue is a conservative congregation located in New Rochelle, New York, which serves approximately 900 families. The synagogue is affiliated with The United Synagogue of Conservative Judaism.

History

The Jewish presence in New Rochelle dates back several hundered years. The earliest recorded Jewish services in New Rochelle were held on October 1, 1873 in a tent on Huguenot Street. Beth El's precursor, The Hebrew Institute, was founded in 1908 by a group of fifteen families. By 1927 the congregation had grown to over 200 families. The current temple building was constructed in 1961.
