Competing at the Paralympic Games, Hess won four gold medals in 1984, one in 1988, six in 1996 [ [http://www.humanite.fr/2000-10-28_Sports_-Beatrice-Hess-En-soi-existe-toujours-un-potentiel "Béatrice Hess : 'En soi, existe toujours un potentiel…'"] , "L'Humanité", October 28, 2000] , and seven in 2000.
