Carlos Francisco Burgos Aponte (born August 10, 1989 in Bayamon, Puerto Rico) is a Puerto Rican professional basketball player. He has played professionally since he was 15 years old for the Bayamon Cowboys until he was 17. He currently resides in Orlando, Florida and is studying at the University of Central Florida. He is going to be a walk-on player on the UCF Golden Knights for the 2008-2009 season.

Burgos has played in the National Superior Basketball League of Puerto Rico(BSN) for the Bayamon Cowboys. Burgos was also a member of the U18 Puerto Rican National Team. Burgos is also considered as one of the future cornerstones of Puerto Rican Basketball.

Early Life

Carlos Francisco Burgos Aponte was born on August 10, 1989 in Bayamon, Puerto Rico. He is the oldest son of Carlos Burgos and Carmen Aponte. He also has a younger sister, Karla Burgos. Burgos originally started playing baseball when he was a child, until his basketball coach noticed that he was taller than most of the other children. He recommended that Carlos play basketball, and Burgos has not stopped playing ever since. When Burgos was 13 he went to the prep Episcopal Cathedral School to play basketball.

Episcopal Cathedral School

Burgos went to the Episcopal Cathedral School to play basketball. He did not play much during his freshman year due to the fact that he was too young and immature. During his sophomore year he was given the chance to start mid-way through the season. He posted 18 PPG, 10 assists and 5 rebounds per game. During his Junior year, Burgos exploded, posting 25 ppg 12 assists and 9 rebounds per game. Unfortunately, Burgos suffered an ankle and knee injury that sidelined him for half of the season. That year the Cougars went to the McDonald's Basketball Tournament but lost to Colegio Carmen del Sol during the semi finals. A motivated Burgos came back senior year and led his team through the regular season undefeated and consequently won the McDonald's Basketball Tournament. During his senior season, Carlos posted 31 ppg 12 assists and 9 rebounds per game. He was chosen to the All-Star game that year and was named MVP of that tournament. Carlos left the Episcopal Cathedral School being the all time points leader with 1,500 and the all time assists leader with 1,029 assists.

Bayamon Cowboys

It was during Burgos's sophomore season, that scouts from the Bayamon Cowboys, his hometown team, started noticing Carlos. On the summer of 2004, Carlos Burgos signed a free agent contract to play with the Bayamon Cowboys. During his rookie year, Burgos played 5 min per game averaging 2.0 per game and 4 assists per game. During the next years, Carlos saw his playing time increasing and averaged 15 min per game 10 PPG and 8 assists per game. He left the team to dedicate his time on education

Personal Life

After graduating from the Episcopal Cathedral School in 2007, Burgos enrolled in the University of Puerto Rico. He was supposed to play basketball there, but there was a problem with his eligibility and he could not play his first year there. After the year ended, Carlos transferred to UCF where he will be a walk-on and hopefully play the 2008-2009 season. Burgos' plans are to attend college and study Criminal Justice and play basketball.
