Joan Chaworth

Joan Chaworth

Joan Chaworth (1430-1507) was the heiress of Alfreton and the daughter of Sir William Chaworth. She was married in 1458 to John Ormond, Esq., son of John, 6th Earl of Ormonde and his Irish wife Margaret Princess of Thomond. Joan Chaworth was an only child and heiress when she married John Ormonde. John's brother was Sir James Ormonde (ca. 1418-1497), Lord Treasurer of Ireland from 1492 to 1494. They had three children: Anne, Joan, and Elizabeth. Anne Ormond married to Lord Merring, Joan Ormond was married to Sir Thomas Denham, and later to Sir William FitzWilliams. Elizabeth Ormond was married to Sir Anthony Babington.

In the parish church of Alfreton, England is a bronze tablet of Joan Chaworth and her husband John Ormond, Esq., (ca. 1420 - 1503) Lord of Alfreton. Graves Park in England is part of the lands of Alfreton Manor.
