Repairables Management Division

Repairables Management Division

The Repairables Management Division (RMD) is a component of the Aviation Supply Department (ASD) which is part of the United States Marine Corps Marine Aviation Logistics Squadron (MALS) and is responsible for inventory, storage, delivery, and shipping of repairable aeronautical and non-aeronautical repair parts for the Marine Aircraft Group (MAG). RMD responsibilities and organization are set forth in Marine Corps Order P4400.177E Chapter 4. It operates under the supply management principles set forth in Naval Supply Publication 485.

RMD is further divided into five branches:
Reparable Control Branch (RCB)
Repairable Delivery Branch (RDB)
Repairable Storage Branch (RSB)
Supply Shipping Branch (SSB)
Awaiting Parts Branch (AWP)

Of the seven divisions of the supply department RMD is one of the most complicated the high value and importance of the components it manages requires a great level of responsibility and care from its Marines. Depending of the type and number of aircraft supported the RMD is typically responsible for 250 to 500 million dollars of components. RMD typically requires more manpower than the other divisions and since many complex computer transactions are required to track and manage repairable components it requires Marines who are computer literate, good leaders, and are dedicated to learning and retaining knowledge about their job.

RMD is staffed by Aviation Supply Clerks, USMC Military Occupational Specialty 6672, Aviation Supply Officers (6602 or 6604), and Packaging and Preservation Specialists (3052). RMD supports the Squadrons of the MAG and works closely with the Intermediate Maintenance Activity (IMA) to keep working components in its warehouse and ready for issue to those squadrons. It is supported by the Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) and the Naval Inventory Control Point (NAVICP).

The Senior Officer of the RMD is the RMD Officer in Charge (RMD OIC) who reports to the Aviation Supply Officer (ASO) and the MALS Commanding Officer. The senior enlister Marine is the RMD Non-Commissioned Officer in Charge (RMD NCOIC) who reports to the Aviation Supply Chief (ASC) and the MALS Sergeant Major.

In 1975 United States Marine Corps Colonel Don Davis said “Aviation supply is: file maintenance, reconciliation, and attention to detail.”
