Technikon

Technikon

Technikon is a term used in South Africa to refer to a University of Technology. A synonym is "Technical University".

Technikons focus mainly on providing high quality education and giving a hands-on approach to education and training.[citation needed] Technikons lay more emphasis on technology and are renowned[by whom?] to equip both their graduates and undergraduates with profound skills and knowledge that will become relevant within the workplace.

Technikons in South Africa have been renamed to Universities of Technology, resulting in several institutes of education merging to form new universities. They hope to work to achieve similar goals in education and uphold high values and standards of education.[citation needed]
