Smith & Wesson Model 640

Smith & Wesson Model 640

S&W M640

In the 90's Smith & Wesson created the M640 on basis of the Model 40.The first model was chambered in .38 Special and fitted with a standard barrel of 1-7/8 inch length. The second model had a slightly heavier and longer barrel of 2-1/8 inch length.

Alongside with the first model, there was also a Model 940, similar in appearance, but chambered in 9mm Luger.Though heavier than most snub-nose revolvers, (approx. 680 grams ) its appearance is very rounded. In confident hands, it is on par with most 4-inch revolvers of the same caliber.Because of the power of the .357 magnum cartridge, the frame is strengthened just in front of the cylinder release. It also sports a interchangeable, pinned front-sight.
