Laird PLC (lse|LRD) is a leading British-based electronics and technology business. It is a constituent of the FTSE 250 Index.

History

The company was first established in about 1860 as a shipbuilder. Over the next 100 years companies in which it had an interest built some of the first ironclad ships, numerous ships for the Royal Navy (as "Cammell Laird") and mass transit railway carriages (as "Metro-Cammell"). In the 1970's it disposed of its shipbuilding and heavy engineering activities and moved into the automotive sector. In the 1980's it moved into security products and in the 1990's into electronics.
