Philippe-Charles de France

Philippe-Charles de France, duc d'Anjou (August 5, 1668 - July 10, 1671) was the fifth child and second son of Louis XIV, King of France and his wife Marie-Thérèse d'Autriche.

Life

Philippe-Charles, born at the château de Saint-Germain-en-Laye, was a fils de France and, as the second son of the King, he was titled "duc d'Anjou" at birth. Until Philippe-Charles' birth, the previous duc d'Anjou was his uncle, Philippe de France, duc d'Orléans, younger brother of Louis XIV.

Unfortunately, while at Saint-Germain-en-Laye, Anjou died of an infection in the chest, just as his elder sister, Anne-Élisabeth de France had died six years before his birth. The appanage of the Duchy of Anjou reverted to the Crown upon his death, only to be given to his younger brother, Louis-François (June 14, 1672 - November 4, 1672).
