Taryne Mowatt

Taryne Mowatt is a former All-American pitcher for the University of Arizona softball team, and was recently drafted by the National Pro Fastpitch team Washington Glory. In the 2007 Women's College World Series, she led the Arizona Wildcats to their second consecutive and eighth overall national softball title. Mowatt was born on September 12, 1986 to Larry and Suzie Mowatt in Corona, California.

University of Arizona Wildcats

As a sophomore, Mowatt threw a 5-inning, 13 strikeout, 9-0 perfect game against Cal State Northridge on March 18, 2006. It was the only one of her career at and the 8th for Arizona, she also being just the third pitcher to accomplish the feat. She also had a home run (her third on the year) in game one of the 2006 Women's College World Series National Championship against Northwestern after hitting .290 for the season. Mowatt was selected for the WCWS All-Tournament Team after Arizona won its seventh title.

Mowatt's collegiate career was marked by her junior season where she pitched 27 games with double digit strikeouts, including three no hitters, had 42 wins with 522 strikeouts (both school records) and was victorious in a bid for the national title. For her 60 inning, 76 strikeout performance in the 2007 Women's College World Series, she was named to the WCWS All-Tournament Team and earned the Most Outstanding Player award and won two ESPY Awards; Best Female Athlete and Best Female College Athlete. She also set new WCWS records for wins (6) and strikeouts, that one was previously held by former teammate Alicia Hollowell.

In her senior season, Mowatt also tied Hollowell's single game strikeout record at Arizona by fanning 20 (career high) on March 1, 2008 against Angela Tincher and the Virginia Tech Hokies. In that same game, Mowatt and Tincher set a new NCAA Division I record for combined strikeouts at 41. After an appearance at 2008 WCWS, Mowatt ended her career with 1,267 strikeouts, good for second best at Arizona and within the top 20 for NCAA Division I rankings.

Professional Career

Mowatt made her professional debut with the Glory on June 11th against the Akron Racers. She pitched 2 innings in relief in a 7-2 win by the Glory. She recorded her 1st career win on July 27th against the Philadelphia Force at the Westfield Softball Complex by pitching a complete game and allowing 3 hits, 1 run, 3 walks, and striking out 7 batters.
