"Rush" is an Australian television police drama series airing on Network Ten which premiered on 2 September 2008. Plot

"Rush" follows these lives of the members of the prestigious Police Tactical Response Group, whose responsibility it is to attend highly volatile situations requiring their expertise and extensive training. The Tactical Response Group is made up of seven officers and one radio officer, Leon. It is headed by Inspector Kerry Vincent, head of the TRG administration, and Senior Sergeant Lawson Blake, head of the TRG operations. It explores both the working and personal lives of the officers, such as the growing on-screen romance between Josh and Grace and the tension between the head officers, Vincent and Blake, who are both vying to be on top.

Development

The pilot for "Rush", originally titled "Rapid Response", was filmed in 2004 and based on an earlier "Police Rescue" scriptKnox, David. The pilot featured several characters and cast who did not return for the series, including Matthew Le Nevez, Libby Tanner and Corrine Grant. The series was initially rejected but was picked up for production when the 2007–2008 Writers Guild of America strike affected Ten's imported shows. Reception

Described as "Blue Heelers" in flak jackets, "Rush" received quite satisfying reviews from most reviewers.Shiel, Fergus. In its review of "Rush", Fergus Shiel, the reviewer for The Age, expressed his satisfaction for "Rush" commenting that it's "fluid, edgy and would rather live fast and die hard than settle for mediocrity". He also commented that its premiere, in which the Melbourne Arts Centre was transformed into an urban assault course, he "felt a genuine rush of hope for Australian crime drama".
