Vertebrate and Genome Annotation Project

The Vertebrate and Genome Annotation (Vega) project provides manual curation of vertebrate genomes for the scientific community [cite journal|journal=Nucleic Acids Research|year=2005|issue=33|pages=D459–D465|authors=Ashurst et al.|url=http://www.pubmedcentral.nih.gov/articlerender.fcgi?artid=540089|title=The Vertebrate Genome Annotation (Vega) database] . The Vega data repository is publicly available, regularly updated and includes annotations of several finished vertebrate genome sequences: human, mouse, zebrafish, pig and dog [cite journal|title=VEGA, the genome browser with a difference|journal=Briefings in Bioinformatics|issue=6|pages=189–193|year=2005|authors=Loveland, J|url=http://bib.oxfordjournals.org/cgi/reprint/6/2/189] .

The Vega website is built upon the Ensembl codebase [cite journal|title=The Otter Annotation System |authors=Searle et al.|journal=Genome Research|year=2004 |pages=963-970|issue=14|url=http://www.genome.org/cgi/content/full/14/5/963] . The Vega database is run and developed by the Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute.
