McSorley is a Democratic member of the New Mexico Senate, representing the 16th District since 1997. Earlier he was a member of the New Mexico House of Representatives from 1984 through 1996. He is currently chair of the Senate Judiciary Committee.
McSorley was born and grew up in Albuquerque, New Mexico and attended St. Pius X High School. He graduated from the University of New Mexico with a bachelor's degree in 1974 and from the University of New Mexico School of Law with a J.D. in 1979.
