A Cappella vocal quartet.Biography
They were formed as a
student group whilst studying atCambridge University in 1977. Initially their influences wereThe King’s Singers and The Songs of Yale, but they soon developed their own unique style ofmusical comedy .They turnedprofessional in 1982 shortly before appearing in "Blondel", which ran for 399 performances in London’s West End.Even at their outset, they were more associated with the Cambridge
Footlights than the chapelchoirs , and theatricality andhumour have always been a great part of their appeal. They won a Wavendon Allmusic Award fromJohn Dankworth andCleo Laine for breaking down the barriers betweenmusical genres .
