High School

Played for Sebastian River High School in 2002-2003. Transferred to Palm Bay High School before his senior year in the summer of 2003. Started as quarterback for the "USA Today" No. 3 ranked Palm Bay High School Pirates in 2003. In 2004, Wideberg was the ace of a Pirate's pitching staff that went 23-7. Palm Bay fell to Jacksonville Wolfson High School 1-0 in eight innings in the regional final championship on May 18, 2004. In 2004, Wideberg signed with Brevard Community College to continue his baseball career.

College

Wideberg played for the Brevard Community College baseball team in 2005 and 2006. Under Head Coach Ernie Rosseau, assistant coach Bryan Rahal and the tutelage of Pitching Coach Rich "Chooch" Coleman, Wideberg blossomed, earning First-Team All Southern Conference honors in 2006. University of South Carolina career

After the Florida JUCO sophomore showcase, Wideberg impressed the USC Baseball staff and Head coach Ray Tanner enough that Wideberg was offered a scholarship.

"Mostly, they liked my breaking ball", Wideberg told to the "Florida Today" on November 9, 2005. "When I first started pitching here at BCC, I was not polished at all. I am getting more and more." In 2007, Wideberg's junior year, he finished 0-0 in nine appearances, two starts, 10.1 innings pitched, 15 strikeouts, 14 walks, 12 hits allowed, eight earned runs for a 6.97 ERA. On March 14, 2007, Wideberg made his first start of his USC career vs. Appalachian State University, pitching four innings, with four hits allowed, one run and three strikeouts. In his senior year, Wideberg went 2-0, in 11 games with 1 start, 25 innings pitched, 19 hits allowed, 16 earned runs, 33 strikeouts, 15 walks for a 5.76 ERA.
